Neil Magny replaces Geoff Neal, meets Ian Machado Garry on short notice at UFC 292

Ian Machado Garry will get the fight he originally wanted for UFC 292 when he meets Neil Magny.

After Geoff Neal withdrew from the Aug. 19 event due to a medical issue, Magny (28-10 MMA, 21-9 UFC) has agreed to step in on short notice and fight the undefeated Garry (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) in a welterweight bout at TD Garden in Boston. The main card airs pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

Two people with knowledge of the situation told MMA Junkie of the change. The people requested anonymity because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Garry, 25, is coming off a first-round TKO of Daniel Rodriguez at UFC on ABC 4 in May. He’s earned three of his five UFC victories by knockout and is already 2-0 inside the octagon this year.

Magny, 36, is the UFC’s all-time wins leader in the welterweight division. The more than 10-year veteran of the organization has alternated wins and losses over his past five fights, and is coming off a split decision win over Phil Rowe at UFC on ABC 5 in June.
