See title. For me, it’s the fact that the UFC copied the boxing idea of champions being “undisputed” without it actually having any meaning. They just…say it.
In boxing, if you’re undisputed in your weight class, it’s because you’ve collected all of the “alphabet belts” (WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF). No-one else is a (legitimate) champion in your division and your reign as champion is therefore undisputed.
In the UFC, they just call every champion undisputed. Buffer/Rogan/whoever will introduce “the reigning, defending, undisputed champion of the world”. Okay, fine. I guess there’s no other belts to collect, so they’re sort of undisputed by default, even if it doesn’t mean too much given every champion is in the same situation. EXCEPT then they’ll even do it when there’s an interim title holder in the division! Their reign is literally disputed by an interim title holder and they’ll still be referred to as “the undisputed champion”. It has no meaning and it annoys me an irrational amount.
