Sorry if the question makes no sense, I know nothing of martial arts, but I wanted to ask people on here because I feel like if I look up a video/article I might end up in the mma-equivalent of “get shredded with this ab workout” type of info.
I wanna start learning about martial arts; how to throw punches, kicks, mobility/flexibility, etc… Anything that can be refined alone at home with respect to practice and theory. The primary goal is overall fitness, but I figured that I could practice some attributes useful to martial arts if perhaps, someday, I join the one mma gym in my small town (its sketcy af tho).
I figured that IF this is possible, w/o a coach to spot my mistakes, I’d need to pay extremely careful attention to technique and theory, but I don’t know any reputable sources nor do I have any roadmap (so I don’t start on something totally out of my league).
IF the answer to title is affirmative, what are some places I could start researching? Do you recommend a particular progression in techniques? Who are the trusted faces in this community?
I’m decently fit with a background in parkour and calisthenics, if that’s relevant.
