[SPOILER] The debate about the greatest ever MW is over

I appreciate Izzy’s skills, he is one of the best MWs ever, but I can’t imagine a world where a prime Anderson Silva (2006-2012 maybe) loses to Strickland. It simply wouldn’t happen. He wouldn’t have been caught clean like Izzy, he wouldn’t have wilted under pressure like Izzy, and he would’ve made Sean pay again and again for engaging with him unlike Izzy.

Journalists and commentators often claim Izzy has amazing ring IQ but I believe this part of his game is quite overrated. There’s no question he’s an amazing striker with excellent precision, timing and reflexes, but if his ring IQ is so extraordinary, why did he get comfortably defeated by a slow and unfit Blachowicz? Why did he knocked out again by Pereira when he was winning? And why did Strickland defeat him with pressure and boxing when it should play straight into his hands?

He got out strategised by Blachowicz, trapped by Pereira and overwhelmed by Strickland. That is not what should happen if you have an amazing ring IQ.

Last night also confirmed that Izzy isn’t mentally strong and that’s why he overcompensates with his ridiculous ego. I’m not claiming he’s weak but he is not resilient. He knew he needed to knockout Strickland and he ran away. He even ran away from the post-fight presser.

I believe Izzy will be champion again, maybe even in his next fight when the rematch happens, but he will never be the greatest.

The debate is over. AND STILL the greatest ever MW in MMA history: Anderson Silva!
