Nate Diaz is set to make more money than Jorge Masvidal for Saturday’s fight.
This Saturday, Diaz and Masvidal face off in a 10-round light heavyweight boxing match at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The bout is a rematch of sorts from their 2019 fight at UFC 244 which crowned the inaugural “BMF” champion, a concept originated by Diaz. The Stockton native lost that fight by third-round doctor’s stoppage, but the previous outcome appears to have had no effect on their purses for this fight because Diaz leads all fighters for the upcoming card with a $500,000 guaranteed purse , while Masvidal will only net $300,000 before pay-per-view sales.
The California State Athletic Commission revealed the salaries in a message to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin on Saturday.
In fact, Masvidal is not even the second-highest base salary for Saturday’s event as former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, who faces Chris Avila in the featured bout of the evening, is set to earn a guaranteed $350,000. Avila, meanwhile, earns $210,000, the fourth-highest purse on the card, even above former boxing world champion Daniel Jacobs, who nets just $100,000 for his bout with Shane Mosely Jr. ($160,000). However, Jacobs also missed weight for his fight and was fined 20 percent of his purse, half of which will go to Mosely Jr.
A complete list of the salaries for the event can be seen below. As always, these figures do not represent a fighter’s total earnings, as certain sponsorship incomes, pay-per-view earnings, and other revenue streams are not publicly disclosed.
