Turki Alalshikh continues to rebuild the world of boxing (for better or worse) with the recent announcement that Ring Magazine will partner with Dimps Corporation to create a new boxing video game featuring original characters.
Dimps was founded by video game icon Takashi Nishiyama, the name behind some of the industry’s most beloved fighting series including Street Fighter, The King of Fighters, and Fatal Fury, among others.
“This strategic partnership between myself and Nishiyama brings together our unmatched authority in boxing with game developer Dimps’ decades-long experience in crafting classic games,” Alalshikh wrote on social media.
“Development of our untitled Ring Magazine boxing game with Dimps will begin soon,” Alalshikh continued. “We can’t wait to unveil more details in the future.”
Nishiyama will have some big shoes to fill. While today’s technology will certainly give him the tools necessary to create a formidable entry, capturing the heart and soul of beloved classics like Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! will be a considerably tall order.
A name and release date have yet to be determined.
